Full Automation Glyph Breakdown

Geometric, stencil, and bold lines

Full Automation features thick strokes and bold cuts in the letter forms, and is intended for use in headlines, titles, or logos. Inspiration also comes from early computers/science fiction and bit of geometric letter design.

It was designed with 2 aspect ratios in mind: the original is built from a grid of tall 1:1.38 rectangles and the other uses a square grid. This helps mimic the perspective used in the reference image.

What font does Factorio use in the logo?

Albert at Wube Software handcrafted the game’s logo and adjusted as they saw fit. As such, The game doesn’t use an existing font you can find. Instead, Full Automation was inspired by the logo.

The Full Automation typeface expands the 7 characters into a full alphabet with a tall and square font. The game’s logo is at an angle, which the square font replicates, but the tall font is the flat characters seen from directly above.

At long last

Full Automation aims to create a display typeface inspired by Factorio’s logo. Many a creator has searched and asked for the font that game features in it’s logo, not knowing its history. This is my solution to that gap and is freely available on the forums.

Available for personal and commercial work under a Creative Commons license, you can download Full Automation for free on the Factorio forums. Included are 2 fonts:

FA Regular – Also referred to as the “Tall” font, these are the angle-adjusted, or full size characters. Personally, I prefer this.

FA Square – The characters have been shortened to mimic the text seen at an angle in Factorio’s logo.
